Applied Power and PEPCO Energy Sevices Chosen to Construct Photovoltaic Array in Maryland

The US General Services Administration (GSA) announced that it has selected a unit of Potomac Electric Power (PEPCO, Washington, DC) to help build one of the nation's largest solar-energy projects, outside of the nation's capital in Maryland. PEPCO Energy Services Inc., in partnership with Applied Power Corp. (Butler, WI), were chosen to construct a photovoltaic array for use at the Suitland Federal Centre in Suitland, MD.GSA funded the generation station, with partial funding for the photovoltaic system installation provided by the Department of Energy. The solar system is expected to begin producing power later this year.The photovoltaic power system will consist of an array of 2,800 modules that will convert sunlight into 100kW of electricity. The solar-generated electricity will provide power for the central cooling plant at the Suitland Federal Centre, promoting solar-energy use for the US government's Million Solar Roofs Initiative.
