Apex Introduces New PB51 Power Booster Amplifier

September 16, 2001 by Jeff Shepard

Apex Microtechnology Corp. announced the PB51 "power booster" amplifier, which is designed to work in tandem with small-signal, general-purpose op amps to generate voltage and current gains. By placing the PB51 in the feedback loop of the driver amplifier, a composite amplifier is created with the accuracy of the driver and the extended output voltage range and current capability of the booster.

The amplifier features 1.5A continuous output current, and an A-grade version, the PB51A, provides 2A output. It operates from a wide supply range from ±15V to ±150V, making it suitable for high-voltage applications, including electrostatic transducers, electrostatic deflection, programmable power supplies operating up to 280Vpp, and high-voltage instrumentation, such as waveform generators. It also features a 50V/µs slew rate (75V/µs for the PB51A), programmable output current limit, 320kHz minimum high-power bandwidth and 12mA quiescent current.

The device is housed in a electrically isolated 12-pin PowerSIP, with a 30.48mm x 6.35mm footprint. The package's flat-back design and isolated case allows for direct heatsinking.

Pricing for the PB51 is $68.15 and $84.35 for the PB51A, in 100-unit quantities.
