APEC Update Regarding COVID-19 – APEC 2020 is Proceeding as Scheduled

March 09, 2020 by Paul Shepard

In a statement issued on March 8, 2020, the IEEE Applied Power Electronics Conference (APEC) organizing committee reaffirmed, “APEC is fully committed to the global power electronics community and, at this posting, plans to proceed with APEC 2020, March 15-19 in New Orleans, Louisiana.”

That statement was a follow-up to a more detailed announcement issued on March 2: “The novel coronavirus (COVID-19) continues to affect people throughout the world, and the situation is fluid, with information changing daily. Because the health and safety of our members and participants are our first priority, APEC is paying close attention to statements from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the World Health Organization (WHO), in addition to government announcements concerning travel.

“APEC is fully committed to the global power electronics community and plans to proceed with APEC 2020, March 15-19 in New Orleans, Louisiana. We expect a solid turnout for the conference, a full Exposition Hall, and a robust education agenda.

“For those from affected countries who are unable to attend, we offer our support and understanding. Speakers from these areas have the option to pre-record their presentation.

“On site during the event, we will be taking precautions to ensure your health and safety, including a “no handshake policy,” making antibacterial hand sanitizer freely available, and taking extra measures to ensure the safest food preparation and the cleanest conference environment.

“Pre-recorded presentations are available for speakers that are presenting Plenary, Technical, Industry, or RAP Sessions.”

Updates and current information are available on the APEC 2020 website.
