APC Debuts New Lines of UPSs, the Back-UPS CS 350 and 500

March 11, 2001 by Jeff Shepard

American Power Conversion (APC, West Kingston, RI) announced a new line of desktop uninterruptible power supplies, the Back-UPS CS 350VA and 500VA, designed for small-business and corporate environments. The Back-UPS CS 350 and 500 offer battery backup power and feature file-saving and shut-down of Windows 3.x, 95, 98, Me, NT, 2000 or Macintosh OS9 (9.0.4 and higher) operating systems.

The new line offers six high-powered outlets, optimized alarm indicators and fax/modem and DSL surge protection. Of these six outlets, three provide battery backup while all six offer surge protection. Two of the six offer special spacing to accept transformer blocks without covering other outlets. APC's Back-UPS CS 350 and 500 also include internet, DSL, fax and modem surge protection. The units can work with both USB and serial communications topologies, and come standard with an RJ-45 to USB connector for communication with the workstation. Users can request a free serial port cable as well, if required. The UPSs also include user-replaceable batteries and a warranty.

The Back-UPS CS350 and 500 models will have an estimated reseller price of $84.99 and $129.99, respectively. The units will begin shipping in the second quarter of 2001.
