Analog Devices Inc. (Norwood, MA) introduced the ADP3605 voltage inverter, which operates from a 3V to 6V supply. The device is intended for applications that demand high-output current at a regulated negative output voltage.Available in small SO-8 and TSSOP-14 packages, the ADP3605 operates at a high switching frequency of 250kHz (500kHz internal), enabling the charge pump to use very small external filter capacitors.
The device's inductorless feature is claimed to enable engineers to implement the "thin" design desired in a wide range of battery-powered and portable applications, as well as add-on cards, disk drives and other computer peripherals.The voltage inverter is available in both fixed -3V and adjustable (-3V to -6V) output versions. An output current of 120mA can be achieved while maintaining a guaranteed output accuracy of 5 percent. A logic level change on the shutdown pin disables the output, producing 2A of quiescent current.
The fixed output version is available in either an 8-pin SOIC or 14-pin TSSOP package, while the adjustable output version is only available in an 8-pin SOIC. The SOIC version is priced at $1.20 in 1,000-unit quantities, while the TSSOP is priced at $1.48 in 1,000-piece quantities.
