Altair Develops 100 Percent Lithium Titanate Spinel and Yttria Stabilized Zirconia

May 16, 1999 by Jeff Shepard

Altair International Inc. (Cody, WY) announced that its wholly-owned subsidiary, Altair Technologies Inc. has developed essentially 100 percent lithium titanate spinel (Li4Ti5O12) and also nano-sized yttria stabilized zirconia (YSZ) at its facilities in Reno, Nevada. The lithium titanate spinel is currently under investigation for advanced energy storage devices. Nano-sized YSZ is expected to result in improved thermal spray products for corrosion protection, thermal barriers and microformed products.

Patent applications are being prepared on both materials and Altair believes that it has the only process capable of producing commercial quantities of either material. Altair can now produce evaluation samples of the materials and interested users can obtain product information in summary report within two weeks.
