Allegro MicroSystems Offers New ACS750(S/L)CA-050

October 23, 2003 by Jeff Shepard

Allegro MicroSystems Inc. (Worcester, MA) announced a fully integrated, ±50A, isolated current sensor, the ACS750(S/L)CA-050, which joins the 75A ACS750(S/L)CA-075 and the 100A ACS750(S/E)CA-100 in Allegro’s expanding family of open-loop, hall-effect-based, current sensors. The new current sensor is targeted for the industrial, commercial and automotive markets with power distribution and management, motor control, welding and plasma cutting systems, UPS and emergency lighting, and heating systems end applications.

The monolithic ACS750(S/L)CA-050 provides high reliability and low power loss, as the internal resistance is only 130µΩ. The power leads are electrically isolated (2.5kV) from the sensing circuitry. This allows use of the device in applications where isolation is a requirement without the added expense of opto-isolators or other costly isolating techniques.

The new sensor is supplied in a CA package, and will have an 8 to 10 week lead-time to market. The L version of the device (-40°C to +150°C) is priced at $5.20 in quantities of 10,000. The S version (-20°C to +85°C) is priced at $5.15 in the same quantity.
