AEC-Q101 LED Drivers Deliver Up to 1250mW

March 27, 2019 by Scott McMahan

Nexperia added eight new AEC-Q101 qualified LED drivers to drive low- and medium-power LEDs up to 250mA, extending its constant current LED driver family.

Applications for the LED drivers include constant current LED drivers; use as a generic constant current source; automotive lighting applications such as interior lighting, dashboard, instrumentation, number plate lighting. The drivers can also be paralleled to increase the stabilized output.

The 16V NCR32xx and 40V NCR42xx series come in two package styles, the space-saving SOT457 (SC-74) and the SOT223 (SC-73), a larger option which delivers a higher-power of up to 1250mW. The SOT457 packages measure 2.9mm x 1.5mm x 1mm, and the SOT223 packages measure 6.5mm x 3.5mm x 1.65mm. The SOT457 variants of both the NCR32xx and 40V NCR42xx deliver up to 750mW, while the SOT223 models provide up to 1250mW.

Without an external resistor, the new LED drivers feature an accurate, stabilized output current of 10mA. If an external resistor is used with the NCR32xx series, then the output current is adjustable up to 250mA. The output of the NCR42xx series is adjustable to up to 150mA with an external resistor.

Voltage overhead for both series is low at 1.4V. For extra ruggedness, the drivers can operate with a junction temperature up to 150°C.

"Our growing portfolio of LED drivers addresses the rapidly-expanding market for LEDs in automotive, white goods and consumer applications. Capable of being paralleled, the new NCR32x and NCR42x series are ideally suited to constant current source and automotive applications including interior and exterior lighting such as door handles, dashboards, number plates, indicators and rear lights," said Joachim Stange, product manager bipolar transistors at Nexperia.
