March 12, 2007 by Jeff Shepard

Active Power, Inc. announced the opening of its newest sales and service office in the historical and commercial center of Tokyo, Japan. This location will anchor the company’s operations for the Asia Pacific markets focusing on Japan, Korea, China, Taiwan and Southeast Asia.

The company also announced the latest addition to its team, Rocky Unno, a thirty-six-year industry veteran who will act as the company’s sales director for the Asia Pacific region. Rocky has held management positions with Piller Power Systems, Mitsui Engineering & Shipbuilding and Koebe Steel.

"I am extremely enthusiastic about expanding local sales and service presence for Active Power in the Asia Pacific region," Unno said. "The products, which are manufactured in Austin, Texas, are unique and differentiated from the competition’s offerings and will set a benchmark for critical power system performance in this market. Our commitment is to always work for our customer’s satisfaction."

"The company announced last year that it planned to open an office in the Asia Pacific region by Q1 2007. We have done just that as we remain on schedule to expand into this strategically important market. This is one more significant step towards the achievement of our extended business strategy to market our products directly, and locally, worldwide," said Jim Clishem, President and CEO of Active Power. "The power density and footprint advantages of our flywheel-based UPS systems, coupled with the energy efficiency of our machines, will make Active Power one of the most compelling selections available in the Asian markets. We are looking forward to bringing Active Power critical power solutions to this substantial marketplace."
