AC Delco and Daka Intro Faraday Star Flashlight

August 19, 2002 by Jeff Shepard

ACDelco (Grand Blanc, MI), in conjunction with Daka Development Ltd. (Kowloon, Hong Kong) announced its Faraday Star flashlight, which uses no batteries, no light bulbs and no replacement parts. The flashlight is based on the principal of Faraday's law of induction, which transforms simple motion into light and has only one moving part. The Faraday Star is suitable for camping, hiking and boating trips; emergency kits and vehicles; and toolboxes and fuse boxes.

When gently shaken, a high-strength, rare-earth magnet passes smoothly through a wire coil, efficiently generating electrical energy. A heavy-duty capacitor, which can be recharged repeatedly, stores the energy and delivers power to a super-bright, white light LED. Just 30 seconds of shaking provides more than five minutes of light. In total darkness, the Faraday Star will illuminate a 5ft diameter area at 50ft and will be visible for up to one mile. The components are contained within a rugged, waterproof housing ensuring operation in severe conditions.

The Faraday Star has three models available: the Camper (model LG02), the Compact (model LG05) and the Educational Kit (model LG08).
