Absopulse Releases VFC500 AC Power Source

April 29, 2002 by Jeff Shepard

Absopulse Electronics Ltd. (Carp, ON) released the VFC500, a 500VA ac power source with variable frequency in the range of 47Hz and 424Hz, and output voltage continuously adjustable from 0V to 260Vac. The VFC500 is suitable for use in simulating voltage and frequency deviations for equipment under development, verifying operation for export markets, and safety approval testing.

The VFC500 uses PWM technology to deliver a pure sine-wave output from any available ac line input: 115Vac at 400Hz, 120Vac at 60Hz or 240Vac at 50Hz. Harmonic distortion of the output wave-shape is less than five percent at full load and frequency stability is ±0.1 percent. The output is fully isolated from the input and may either be used in floating mode or in grounded neutral operation.

The unit is fan-cooled and is rated for operation over a 0 to 50 degrees C temperature range. It features full electronic protection, high efficiency and low output noise. The VFC500 is designed to meet international safety approvals, including IEC950, CSA22-2-950 and UL1950. Both the ac input and output are highly filtered to meet the requirements for EN55022 Class B EMI emissions. Housed in an 8.5in x 5.1in x 14in enclosed case, the unit weighs 9lbs.

The VFC500 is priced at $1,350 in quantities of one to four.
