Absopulse Presents PFC6000 Power Supply System

October 29, 2002 by Jeff Shepard

Absopulse Electronics Ltd. (Carp, ON) introduced the new PFC6000 modular, hot-pluggable power system with power-factor-corrected input. The new unit is suitable for applications requiring high-current and high-output power typically used in microwave, telecom and industrial environments.

The PFC6000 delivers 6kW from a 230Vac single-phase input (90Vac to 264Vac universal input range). The unit can be used for a three-phase 400V system, and three separate single-phase input versions for ac-input-redundant applications are also available. The system is rated for 12V at 500A, 24V at 250A, 48V at 125A, or 54V at 110A continuous duty. The power factor is corrected to a minimum of 0.98 at full load for the entire input range.

The PFC6000 is comprised of six plug-in modules in a 4U x 19in x 25in shelf, with each module generating 1,000W. The modules have built-in redundancy diodes that enable N+1 redundancy at 5,000W. The feature also makes the PFC6000 suitable for battery charging. The PFC6000 is fully compliant to the EN61000-3-2 directive for line harmonics, and is also designed to meet international safety approvals, including IEC950, CSA22-2-950 and UL 1950. The system meets the requirements for EN55022 Class A EMI emissions with a wide margin, and Class B filtering can easily be achieved with additional filtering.

The PFC6000 basic model, including the fan unit, is priced at $5,500 for quantities of one to four.
