Absopulse Presents New PFC200 Power Supply

October 07, 2002 by Jeff Shepard

Absopulse Electronics Ltd. (Carp, ON) introduced its new PFC200 telecom-quality power supply intended for applications where low-profile and power-factor correction (PFC) are key requirements. The 200W unit is housed in a 3.5in x 11in x 1in case, with a component height of 0.8in above the PCB. It is designed to meet the EN61000-3-2 directive for low-input, harmonic distortion mandated for European markets.

The design utilizes half-bridge topology after the PFC input stage to deliver 24V/8A or 48V/4A from a 90Vac to 264Vac universal input. The PFC200 requires only a small amount of forced air (10cfm) for operation at full power within a 0 to +50 degrees C temperature range. The unit is filtered on the input and output to meet EN55022 Class B requirements.

The PFC200 has an output-fail alarm as well as an optional power-on LED. A built-in redundancy diode allows for parallel connection to achieve higher output power or N+1 redundancy, making the unit suitable for battery-charging applications. Other electrical specifications include a well-regulated output with low ripple and noise, and a minimum efficiency of 80 percent at full load.

The PFC200 is priced at $265 for quantities of one to four.
