6V Low Resistance PPTC Resettable Fuses

July 08, 2019 by Scott McMahan

Bourns has added a 6V rated Model MF-ASML/X of low resistance surface mount Polymer Positive Temperature Coefficient (PPTC) resettable fuses.  The new series provides Ihold current ratings of 0.35A and 0.5A at the 6V maximum rated voltage.

Applications for the resettable fuses include over-current and thermal protection for wearable and mobile devices, Li-ion battery pack charging, I/O ports, PC motherboards, and gaming consoles

Low resistance conductive materials used in this new product series have post-trip resistance values as low as 0.5Ω and initial resistance values as low as 0.04Ω. These low resistance values help boost the current carrying capability of the resettable fuses.

The new Model MF-ASML050/6-2 can now achieve 0.5A Ihold at 6Vdc in a tiny 0402 package. The series uses Bourns' freeXpansion™ design that increases the performance of the resettable fuse with higher hold currents (Ihold), higher voltages (Vmax), improved resistance stability, and smaller footprints.

Bourns designed these devices to protect against both over-current and over-temperature events within the designated specifications. The new Model MF-ASML/X Multifuse® PPTC products are RoHS compliant* and cUL/ TÜV recognized for safety requirements, and are produced in Bourns' IATF 16949 certified facility in Xiamen, China.
