Monolithic Power Systems (MPS) has introduced a digital synchronous, step-down, COT control mode, an open frame power module for high-density dc-dc power application, the mEZD81260A. Targeted for applications such as telecom and networking systems, the module can provide 60A continuous output current.
Other potential applications for the power module include its use as a power supply for memory, DSP, ASIC, FPGA, microprocessor, servers, digital storage equipment, as well as industrial/ATE. (See typical 2-rail application diagram above).
Like all MPS parts, mEZD81260A power modules are lead-free, halogen-free, and adhere to the RoHS directive. The module uses a digital control algorithm, and it can achieve fast transient response. The dc-dc converter can be configured for dual phase or dual rail operation. In the dual phase operating mode, the mEZD81260A uses the company’s proprietary digital technology for superior interleaving and current sharing performance. In the dual rail operation mode, the mEZD81260A can achieve programmable power on/off sequence.
According to MPS, the mEZD81260A needs the least external discrete components for sense and control circuitry compared to other power modules in its class.
With the aid of the MPS digital programmable GUI, PMBus commands can define almost all operation and configuration parameters. The mEZD81260A offers full programmable fault protection features including UVLO, UVP, OVP, OCP and OTP. It has a 5V to 16V operating input range and features built-in EEPROM. PMBus Compliant (Up to 1MHz clock), the power module is pin programmable for 16 PMBus addresses. The module offers voltage remote sensing for both rails. Switching frequency ranges from 200kHz to 2MHz.
Other features include monitoring of input voltage, output voltage, current, and temperature.
Available in LGA-28 (25mm x 15.5mm x 7mm) package, the module has a fault auto record function.
It provides ultrasonic mode, and offers digital load and line regulation, and provides EEPROM write protection.
