500W Auxiliary DC-DCs for EVs Parallelable up to 5000W

July 26, 2019 by Scott McMahan

Green Watt Power, a division of FSP-Powerland Technology, Inc. introduced the EVD500 Series of fully encapsulated, ruggedized dc-dc converters for EV applications. The EVD500 has two input ranges, 30Vdc to 65Vdc and 50 to 130Vdc, with output voltages of 13.5Vdc, 14.2Vdc, or 27.5Vdc to power auxiliary EV functions such as instruments, lights, accessories, and other EV functions.

Additionally, unlike most dc-dc converters for the EV market, the EVD500 features a constant current function. This function allows it to connect directly to a battery load. With a quiescent current draw of less than 30µA, the EVD 500 also has superior low battery conservation

The EVD500 is fully isolated input to output and provides protections including over-voltage, short circuit, input reverse polarity, and over- temperature.

Efficiencies of the EVD500 run as high as 93%, and the unit has a metal baseplate for excellent heat transfer to a metal mounting surface.

All models come in an IP66 enclosure for protection against water intrusion. Green Watt Power says that the EVD500 provides a cost-effective solution for higher power requirements.

According to the company, multiple EVD500 converters can be wired in parallel without any external circuitry to reach up to 5,000W. All models feature remote ON/OFF and are ROHS compliant.

Line and Load Regulation for the EVD500 is 1% and 7% respectively. Output ripple and noise is 100mV peak to peak typical. Load transient response is 10ms. Startup and rise time is 500ms. The Operating Ambient Temperature Range of the EVD500 is -40°C to +75°C. The MTBF per MIL-HDBK-217F @ 25°C Ground Benign is 150,000 hours. The device's case size is 190.0mm x 76.0mm x 43.5mm (7.48in x 2.99in x 1.71in). It weighs 1.25kg and can withstand 8Gs in x, y, and z axis from 0 to 200Hz for one minute.

The company designed the dc-dc converters to meet IEC, UL, and CSA requirements with EMC Emission: EN12895, EN55022; EMC Immunity: EN12895, and ESD: EN12895 (±4KV Contact, ±15KV Air).
