The following is a listing (with links for the full story) of the most read New Product stories on PowerPulse.Net for 2013, thus providing a window into the “pulse” of the trends and interests in the Power Electronics Industry. This is the second article in the series, which will continue Monday.

40: MOSFET Pairs Help Designers Achieve Highest Power Density and Efficiency

Alpha and Omega Semiconductor Limited (AOS) has released AON6970 and AON6978, high power density 30V PairFET devices, both in an asymmetric dual (high-side and low-side integrated MOSFETs) DFN5x6 package. The devices are designed for high-performance dc-dc solutions for networking point-of-load (POL) converters, servers, advanced notebooks, desktops, all-in-one PCs as well as isolated dc-dc converters in telecom and industrial applications. more

39: ROHM Claims First Mass-Produced SiC MOS Module Without a Schottky Diode

ROHM Semiconductor recently announced that they have begun mass-production of 1200V/180A-rated SiC MOS modules for inverters/converters used for industrial equipment, photovoltaic power conditioners and so on. This new product is thought to be the first module to incorporate a power semiconductor comprised of just a SiC MOSFET, increasing the rated current to 180A for broader applicability while contributing to lower power consumption and greater compactness. more

38: Fairchild’s Eco-Friendly Battery Charger Reduces Charge Time and Powers USB Peripherals

Today's mobile devices are becoming powerful computing products, with an increasingly feature-rich, immersive user experience. With the emergence of USB charging standards and the continuing trend for electronic devices, especially handsets, to be powered through the USB port, product designers are faced with the challenge of enabling advanced product features while quickly and safely charging high-capacity batteries and supporting connected peripherals. Fairchild Semiconductor‘s FAN54015 USB-compliant single-cell Li-ion switching charger provides designers a balance of safety, accuracy, efficiency, and solution size for charging mobile device batteries. more

37: Bellnix Targets Xilinx FPGAs with Quad-Output Converter Module with PMBus Interface and Digital Control

Bellnix Co., Ltd. has introduced the BPE-37 dc-dc converter module. The BPE-37 has 4 (point-of-load converters) POLs on a board, BSV-1.5S12R0H, BSV-3.3S8R0M, BSV-1.8S4R0NA and BSV-3.3S3R0H. It supports ultra-high speed serial transceiver applications (25-28Gbps) on high-end FPGAs such as Xilinx Virtex-7 H580T and Virtex-7 H870. more

36: Ericsson Saves Board Space with Surface-Mount Digital Bus Converter

Ericsson Power Modules has introduced a new 468W surface-mounted version of its second-generation of digital Advanced Bus Converter (ABC) products, called the BMR456-SI. This high-efficiency, digitally controlled dc-dc converter is compliant to full surface-mount manufacturing processes and includes high-precision tooled pins to guarantee high co-planarity and robustness. Advanced firmware integrated in the BMR456-SI contributes towards significant reduction in energy consumption. These devices provide a tightly regulated output voltage (±2%) over the full operational range of 36V to 75V more

35: Dual 13A Regulator with PMBus Digital Interface for Remote Monitoring & Control of Power

Linear Technology Corporation has added the LTM4676, a dual 13A or single 26A µModule® (micromodule) step-down dc-dc regulator with a serial digital interface. The interface enables system designers and remote operators to command and supervise a system's power condition and consumption. The ability to digitally change power supply parameters reduces time-to-market and down time by eliminating what would have historically required physical hardware, circuit, and/or system bill-of-material modifications. The LTM4676 simplifies system characterization, optimization and data mining during prototyping, deployment and field operation. more

34: NextPowerS3 MOSFETs Offer Super-Fast Switching with Soft Recovery

NXP Semiconductors N.V. has released of NextPowerS3, a new high-performance 30V MOSFET platform incorporating the company's unique "SchottkyPlus" technology. NextPowerS3 is claimed to be the industry's first MOSFET to deliver the high frequency, low spiking performance usually associated with MOSFETs with an integrated Schottky or Schottky-like diode but without problematic high leakage current. NextPowerS3 30V is suitable for a variety of applications, including high efficiency power supplies for telecoms and cloud computing, high performance portable computing and battery-powered motor control, such as rechargeable power tools. more

33: ADI Aims to Revolutionize Industrial Motor and Solar Inverter Designs with Mixed-Signal Control

Analog Devices, Inc. (ADI) launched today a mixed-signal control processor that integrates the industry's only embedded dual 16-bit A/D converter with up to 14 bits of accuracy together with a 240-MHz floating-point ARM® Cortex-M4 processor core. Equipment manufacturers require highly-accurate, closed-loop control in servo, motor-drive, solar photovoltaic (PV) inverter and other embedded industrial applications to improve the energy efficiency and performance of their products. The higher precision analog conversion of the ADSP-CM40x achieves these goals. more

32: Fairchild’s Dual Cool Package Improves Power Density and Performance in DC-DCs

Designers of dc-dc conversion applications are challenged with improving power density while saving board space and reducing thermal resistance. Fairchild Semiconductor‘s new mid-voltage PowerTrench® MOSFETs with Dual Cool packaging technology are well suited to help with these design challenges. more

31: Texas Instruments Targets IGBT and SiC FET Designs with New Gate Drivers

Texas Instruments Incorporated (TI) today introduced the industry's first 35-V, single-channel, output stage power management gate drivers for insulated-gate bipolar transistors (IGBTs) and silicon-carbide (SiC) FETs. TI's new UCC27531 and UCC27532 output stage gate drivers with split output provide the most efficient output drive capability, shortest propagation delay and increased system protection for isolated power designs, such as solar dc-ac inverters, uninterruptible power supplies and electric vehicle charging. more
