3V to 28V Omnipolar Hall Effect Switches for Industrial, Office, and Home Appliance Applications

January 31, 2019 by Scott McMahan

Diodes Incorporated announced its AH35xx series of omnipolar Hall effect switches. These devices feature a wide operating voltage range of 3V to 28V, enabling them to support all of the 3.3V, 5V, 12V, and 24V rails often found in industrial, office, and home appliance applications.

Typical applications in these segments include position and proximity sensing, level detection, open and close detection, and flow metering. All of the devices in the AH35xx series feature reverse-polarity and over-voltage protection and have a 6kV HBM ESD rating as well as output over-voltage and over-current protection.

The series is comprised of three devices with a choice of two magnetic switching threshold configurations; operation points are either ±40 or ±20 Gauss, while release points are ±10 or ±25 Gauss, respectively. All the devices feature high threshold stability and low temperature-drift. The AH3572 and AH3574 have an active-low, open-drain output, while the AH3582 provides an active-low, internal resistive pullup output, which can reduce component count and overall solution size.

All three of the series feature a chopper stabilized design that offers superior temperature stability, minimal switch point drift, and enhanced immunity to stress. The devices are said to have good RF noise immunity and feature a reverse blocking diode, and Zener clamp on supply and output pins.

The fast power-up (10µs) and response times (3.75µs) of the AH35xx series make them especially suitable for critical applications in protection and fault detection.

The AH35xx Series has been designed to operate across an ambient temperature range of ‑40°C to +125°C. The AH35xx series is available in SOT23 (tape-and-reel) and SIP-3 (‘ammo' or bulk) packages.
