3.3V / 300mA Synchronous DC-DC Eval Kit Features Adjustable Input

The MAXM15062 3.3V output evaluation kit (EV kit) from Maxim Integrated Products provides a proven design to evaluate the MAXM15062 high-voltage, high-efficiency, synchronous step-down dc-dc module. The EV kit is programmed to deliver 3.3V output for loads up to 300mA. The EV kit features an adjustable input undervoltage lockout, selectable mode, and open-drain RESET signal.

Applications/uses are expected to include 4-20mA current-loop powered sensors, battery-powered equipment, general purpose point-of-load, HVAC and building controls, industrial sensors and process control, LDO replacement, and USB Type-C powered loads.

The MAXM15062 EV kit PCB provides an optional electrolytic capacitor (C2, 4.7μF/100V) to dampen input voltage peaks and oscillations that can arise during hot-plug-in and/or due to long input cables. This capacitor limits the peak voltage at the input of the MAXM15062 power module, when the EV kit is powered directly from a precharged capacitive source or an industrial backplane PCB.

Long input cables, between input power source and the EV kit circuit can cause input-voltage oscillations due to the inductance of the cables. The equivalent series resistance (ESR) of the electrolytic capacitor helps damp out the oscillations caused by long input cables. In addition, capacitor C1 (0.1μF/100V), placed near the input of the board, helps in attenuating high frequency noise.

MAXM15062 product family

The Himalaya series of voltage regulator ICs and power modules enable cooler, smaller, and simpler power-supply solutions. The MAXM15062/MAXM15063/MAXM15064 are a family of high-efficiency, synchronous step-down dc-dc modules with integrated controller, MOSFETs, compensation components, and inductor that operate over a wide input-voltage range. The modules operate from 4.5V to 60V input and deliver up to 300mA output current.

The MAXM15062 and MAXM15063 are fixed 3.3V and 5V output modules respectively. The MAXM15064 is an adjustable output (0.9V to 5V) module.

The modules significantly reduce design complexity, manufacturing risks, and offer a true plug and play power/ supply solution, reducing time-to-market.

The MAXM15062/3/4 modules employ peak-current mode control architecture. To reduce input inrush current, the modules offer a fixed 4.1ms soft-start time. The MAXM15062/3/4 module is available in a low profile, compact 10-pin, 2.6mm × 3mm × 1.5mm, uSLIC™ package.
