1700V Gate Drivers Target 480- to 690-Vac Applications

August 01, 2017 by Paul Shepard

SCALE-iDriver galvanically isolated single-channel gate driver ICs from Power Integrations now support IGBT blocking voltages up to 1700V, which are typically used in 480- to 690-Vac line applications. They are designed for industrial drives, 3-level power supplies/UPS and photovoltaic inverters, commercial EV and traction auxiliary equipment.

1700V SCALE-iDriver ICs deliver a gate current of up to 8A to support systems of up to 110kW without an external booster, and up to 30A gate current for over 400kW with an external booster stage. 1700V SCALE-iDriver ICs, are optimized for driving both IGBTs and MOSFETs. They combine Power Integrations’ pioneering FluxLink™ magneto-inductive bi-directional communications technology with SCALE™ power device driver technology.

The new device family also makes use of the innovative eSOP™ package which provides greater than 9.5mm of creepage and a CTI of 600 for high breakdown protection and increased system reliability.

1700V SCALE-iDriver ICs meet the upcoming IEC 60747-17 and VDE 0884-17 standards. Devices feature desaturation (short-circuit) protection with Advanced Soft Shut Down (ASSD) functionality, providing reliable and easy-to-implement protection to the power switch.

Additional features include: Up to 75kHz switching frequency; Low propagation delay time 260ns; Propagation delay jitter ±5ns; -40 to 125 °C operating ambient temperature; High common-mode transient immunity; and Controller (PWM and fault) signals are compatible with 5V CMOS logic, which may also be adjusted to 15 levels by using external resistor divider.
