15- to 50-Volt Input, 6-Watt Mil-Spec DC-DC Converters

August 05, 2019 by Paul Shepard

Crane Aerospace & Electronics announced the introduction of a new, higher-power MSA+ dc-dc converters as a drop-in replacement for Crane A&E’s MSA series. The converters are available with SX, ES or standard screening. SX screening is fully compliant to MIL-PRF-38534, Class H.

The MSA+ dc-dc converters have a power density of 15 Watts per cubic inch, 15- to 50-Volt input, and magnetic feedback. Available output voltages include 3-, 5-, 5.2-, 12-, 15-, ±5-, ±12- and ±15-Vdc

The offset flange case option allows higher board density. The devices also deliver high-reliability under harsh conditions, have a compact footprint, and operate over a temperature range of -55°C to +125°C. The hermetically sealed nickel plated steel cases are 1.065 x 1.065 x 0.350 inches (27.05 x 27.05 x 8.89 mm) for the standard case.

The low profile MSA+ converters are manufactured in a fully certified and qualified MIL-PRF-38534 Class H production facility and packaged in hermetically sealed steel cases. Thick-film hybrid techniques provide military/ aerospace reliability levels and optimum miniaturization.

According to Bob Myers, Modular Power Senior Director at Crane A&E, “The MSA+ is a response to our customers’ request for a higher power, wider input voltage range and lower output ripple in our 1.13 square inch case.”
