14A/300W PoL Converter for Harsh Environments Rated to 105°C

April 16, 2019 by Scott McMahan

Gaia Converter revealed its first point of load converter, the MPGS-14A. This product features an ultra-wide input voltage range of 4.5Vdc - 33Vdc and transient up to 42Vdc/100ms with a single output voltage of 3.3Vdc that is adjustable from 1.2Vdc to 24Vdc, targeting defense and airborne applications.

The MPGD-14A can be used either stand-alone directly in front of a battery bus or in conjunction with isolated dc-dc converters as a local power conversion point in highly efficient and distributed power systems.

Packaged in a 1"x.075" housing, the MPGS-14A can provide up to 14A/300W current/power over a temperature range of -55°C to +105°C and in rugged military and airborne environmental conditions.

This module features an adjustable soft-start, an input under-voltage lock-out, a permanent short circuit and overload protection as well as over-temperature protection. The soft-start allows current limitation during startup, and it eliminates inrush current. The short circuit protection completely protects the modules against short-circuits of any duration

via a shut-down. It then, restores to normal when the overload is removed.

The modules are potted with a bi-component thermal conductive compound to ensure optimum power dissipation under harsh environmental conditions.

The device's nominal output voltage is 3.3Vdc.

However, the output voltage is adjustable to 1Vdc and 2Vdc to 24Vdc. Nominal current is up to 14A and it power is up to 260W. It typically operates at 97% efficiency.
