12-Watt DC-DC offers 4:1 Wide Input Range and Tight Line Regulation

July 30, 2013 by Jeff Shepard

Murata Power Solutions announced the NCS12 series of compact, encapsulated, metal-cased 12W dc-dc converters developed. Accommodating a 4:1 wide input voltage range, these single- and dual-output isolated converters are available in 9 to 36 Vdc or 18 to 75 Vdc input voltage models. Single-output models for the popular nominal output voltages from 3.3 to 15 Vdc. Duals are available with either ±5, ±12, or ±15 Vdc outputs.

An undervoltage lockout feature ensures that the converter only operates with a valid input voltage. Load regulation is typically within the range of 0.05 to 1% and is model dependent. Line regulation is typically 0.1% and the converter has a fast start-up time of 9 ms. Other protection and safety features of the NCS12 include current fold back in overload conditions and thermal shutdown should the case temperature exceed 120 degrees C. The normal operating temperature range is from -40 to +85 degrees C.

The NCS12 converter measures just 20 x 32 x 10.75 mm and uses an industry standard pin-out that is also compatible with earlier dc-dc converter devices available from Murata Power Solutions. Certification to the industry safety standard IEC/UL60950 for commercial and IT equipment is pending.
