ZigBee Alliance and Demand Response & Smart Grid Coalition Establish Liaison Agreement

September 01, 2009 by Jeff Shepard

The Demand Response and Smart Grid Coalition (DRSG) and ZigBee Alliance announced that the two organizations have established a formal liaison agreement between the two groups, making ZigBee a member of DRSG, and linking their efforts to support the Smart Grid.

DRSG is the trade association for companies providing technologies, products and services in the demand response and smart grid areas. The ZigBee Alliance is a global ecosystem of companies creating wireless solutions for use in energy management, commercial and consumer applications. The agreement provides for collaboration on promotion and advocacy related to development of smart grid technology policies.

"This is a great opportunity for both organizations and for their members," said Dan Delurey, Executive Director of DRSG. "ZigBee is an active organization working to introduce new technology into the marketplace and we look forward to helping it keep its members aware of how evolving policy developments in Washington may affect market requirements for the smart grid. Also, we are confident that the expertise of the ZigBee Alliance will provide DRSG with a better understanding of technology developments that are occurring in the industry."

"Our liaison agreement with DRSG will provide the ZigBee Alliance with keen insight on smart grid activities and will help us ensure that ZigBee Smart Energy, our wireless home area network solution continues to be the leading choice for use with demand response and smart grid programs around North America," said Bob Heile, Chairman of the ZigBee Alliance. "We also look forward to being a resource to DRSG so that it can better represent the smart grid community as policy develops."
