Zetex Delivers MPPS Series of Bipolar Transistors

January 14, 2003 by Jeff Shepard

Zetex Inc. (Hauppauge, NY) added a complete series of bipolar transistors to its range of Miniature Package Power Solutions™, which give designers the opportunity to increase current handling capability for a given footprint area. Provided in micro-leaded packages (MLP), the bipolar MPPS™ products offer a real power dissipation three times greater than that of alternative surface-mount packaged devices, according to the company.

The 3mm x 2mm MLP accomodates a dual die and occupies the same PCB area as a single die SOT23 package, while the 2mm x 2mm MLP supports a single die and takes the same space as the SOT323 package. The 0.9mm off-board height of both MLP packages is less than that of the SC59 package (1.3mm) and the SOT23 (1.1mm). Replacing much larger SOT89 and SOT223 packages also results in a savings of weight.

The 25,000-price is $0.25 each. Delivery is quoted at four to six weeks in production volumes.
