ZANE International Introduces New OEM DC Voltage Doubler

January 07, 2001 by Jeff Shepard

ZANE International Inc. (Grand Junction, CO) recently announced the OEM dc voltage doubler. With a conversion efficiency approaching 99 percent at full-load, zero additional heat sinking is normally required for the approximately 2" square module, according to ZANE. Delivering 100 times the output of a conventional doubler with only 0.1V ripple at full-load, this doubler drives all load types. Inductive loads are a particular strength owing to the large capacitive design. A +/- source voltage is available via a common terminal.

To maximize application potential, Schottky rectifier diodes and complimentary MOSFETs are used to realize a close approximation of doubled voltage (within 0.1V light load). A no-load current draw of about 15mA holds the drain to a minimum in standby status, while spikes and surges that may be present in the source voltage are heavily dampened by the capacitive design.

Versions are available to double either a 6V or 12V source voltage, delivering up to 2A or 7.5A (4A or 15A sourced) to a load. An internal resistance of 1.5ohms per 2A version, and 0.35ohms per 7.5A version minimize the voltage drop to satisfy most requirements.

The 2A version is $31 and the 7.5A version is $55.48. OEM and distributor quantities are available two weeks ARO.
