Yaskawa Electric UK Launches the Varispeed-626M5 Series of AC Inverter Drives

July 31, 2001 by Jeff Shepard

Yaskawa Electric UK (UK) has launched the new Varispeed-626M5 Series, a range of high-performance, ac vector-controlled, inverter drives. The series is designed for controlling high-speed, compact ac motors used in machine tool spindle-drive applications. It is suitable for stand-alone or multi-axis applications and consists of a VS-626M5 inverter and a VS-656MR5 regenerative converter. For multi-axis applications, a range of sigma series servo-drives are available, giving a compact solution for up to seven axis of motion.

The package offers enhanced spindle performance over the complete speed range. The drive uses high-frequency pulse-wave modulation. Yaskawa claims that the typical speed and current-loop closure times are up to 10 times faster than conventional inverter drives. The series is offered in both 200V and 400V ratings.

The standard series offers 3.7kW/2.2kW to 30kW/22kW on the 200V rating, and 5.5kW/3.7kW to 45kW/37kW on the 400V rating. The winding selection on both ratings is 5.5kW/3.7kW to 30kW/22kW. Other features incorporated as standard include 64 digital pre-set speeds, analog or digital references, single- or dual- winding motor configurations and a servo-mode. One additional feature is a spindle-orientation magnetic sensor or auxiliary encoder with an orientation option for either.
