Xantrex Demonstrates Backup Power Systems

January 27, 2003 by Jeff Shepard

Xantrex Technology Inc. (Las Vegas, NV) recently demonstrated three backup power solutions: the new Xantrex hybrid backup power system (Xantrex HBPS), the Xantrex backup power system (Xantrex BPS) and the Xantrex xPower 1500 systems. The small-scale Xantrex BPS is a compact, affordable solution for indoor installations that instantly provides up to four hours of backup power when utility power fails. It is available in 2,000W to 5,500W models with a high surge capacity up to 9,000W to start motor loads.

The new Xantrex HBPS automatically provides backup power during power outages and combines a Xantrex sinewave inverter/charger with a Kohler dc generator, batteries, and optional renewable energy capabilities. During extended blackouts, the system will automatically start its dc generator when the battery bank is depleted to a level pre-programmed by the user. Once the batteries are recharged, the system will automatically shut off the generator. When utility power is once again available, the batteries are kept in a charged and ready position using utility power.

The xPower 1500 systems, which are inexpensive and portable sources of household power, run from battery power, produce no noise or fumes, and can be used indoors and outdoors. The units can be recharged from a utility outlet or a 12V outlet, and can provide 1,500W of ac household power. All 1,500W units have a dc power outlet to run an emergency light or jump-start a vehicle.
