Vishay Launches New TransZorb TVS Families

April 25, 2004 by Jeff Shepard

Vishay Intertechnology Inc. (Malvern, PA) released two new families of transient voltage suppressors, including the first bi-directional, 800 W rated transient voltage suppressor (TVS) in the SMB package. The new surface-mount TransZorb™ products are offered with 500 W, 800 W, and 1,000 W peak pulse-power ratings (10/1,000 µs waveform). Designed to protect voltage-sensitive components, including MOS devices and low-power ICs, the new TransZorb devices respond to transient over-voltage conditions in power supplies, automotive systems and fixed telecom infrastructures.

Vishay offers the 500 W, uni-directional and bi-drectional TVSs in the SMA package, and the 800 W, bi-drectional and 1,000 W uni-directional TVSs in the SMB package. With a choice of maximum stand-off voltages in increments from 5 V to 40 V, the new families comprise 156 standard device options. Both the SMA and SMB packages feature an Underwriters Laboratory Flammability Classification 94V-0, built-in strain relief, and an operating temperature of -55 °C to +150 °C. Footprint dimensions are 5.10 mm x 2.66 mm x 2.13 mm for the SMA and 5.40 mm x 3.62 mm x 2.28 mm for the SMB.

Samples and production quantities of the new TransZorb transient voltage suppressors are available now, with lead times of four to six weeks for larger orders. Pricing for delivery in 10,000-piece quantities ranges from $0.04 to $0.06 each.
