August 16, 2000 by Jeff Shepard

Vishay Intertechnology Inc. (Malvern, PA) has acquired Cera-Mite Corp. (Grafton, WI), a manufacturer and worldwide supplier of ceramic capacitors and thermistors for the electronics industry.Felix Zandman, chairman and CEO of Vishay, stated, "The primary reason for this acquisition is Cera-Mite's excellence in the technology of ceramic materials. Their ceramic materials know-how will complement and strengthen our existing ceramic capacitor lines. Their product line consists of ceramic disk capacitors and positive temperature coefficient thermistors. Cera-Mite's positive temperature coefficients will perfectly complement our negative temperature coefficient thermistor line, and will open up for us a new market that is approximately $250.0 million." Zandman continued, "I believe our strong worldwide marketing and sales force will be very successful in penetrating this new market. Present management will stay the same. The worldwide market for ceramic disc capacitors is approximately $1.5 billion."
