Vishay Interntechnology Samples Little Foot Plus Power MOSFET/Schottky Diode Products

Vishay Intertechnology Inc. (Malvern, PA) recently announced that it is sampling a trio of combination power MOSFET/Schottky diode products in TSOP-6 packaging, which they call the Little Foot Plus devices. Vishay claims this is an industry first for this device and, when compared to competing MOSFET/Schottky products, the on-resistance for the new devices is up to 25 percent lower and requires approximately 33 percent less board space.

The new Little Foot Plus is designed to be used for dc/dc conversion and power switching in cellular phone and other mobile communications systems. The devices include two p-channel MOSFET/Schottky products designed to offer designers a choice of 30V (Si3851DV) or 20V (Si3853DV) breakdown voltages, and an n-channel product rated at 20V (Si3812DV).

According to Vishay, the Si3851DV is intended for battery charging and disconnect applications in cellular phones and offers a maximum on-resistance of 200 milliohms at a 10V gate drive, and a Schottky maximum average forward current of 0.5A. The Si3853DV is designed to offer the same 200 milliohm on-resistance rating at a 4.5V gate drive. The Si3812DV is designed to combine a 20V breakdown voltage, a 0.5A Schottky average forward current, and on-resistance ratings at gate drives of 4.5V (115 milliohms) and 2.5V (180 milliohms). The Si3812DV uses what the company claims is a new MOSFET process based on a state-of-the-art 32-million-cells-per-square-inch trench technology that provides very low on-resistance and also minimizes losses.

Marketing development manager at Vishay Siliconix, Tony Grizelj, commented, "These new Little Foot Plus TSOP-6 devices will enable smaller designs, more efficient use of battery power and simpler board layouts, while streamlining assembly with an industry-standard package that is approximately two-thirds the size of other such products on the market."

Sample and production quantities of all three Little Foot Plus devices are now available. In quantities of 100,000, pricing starts at $0.36 each.
