Vicor Introduces New Filter/Input Attenuator Module

May 07, 2000 by Jeff Shepard

Vicor Corp.'s (Andover, MA) filter/input attenuator module (FIAM) is a modular, dc input, front end providing transient protection, inrush current limiting and EMI filtering in a single, mini-sized package. The FIAM enables designers using Vicor second-generation 48Vin dc/dc converters to meet the transient immunity and EMI requirements of Bellcore, FCC, ETSI and European Norms. It also protects system hardware from the potentially damaging effects of inrush current encountered during card insertion.

The FIAM accepts an input voltage of 36Vdc to 76Vdc, is available in either 10A or 20A versions, and includes remote on/off and reverse-polarity protection. FIAM is housed in an industry-standard half-brick module measuring 2.28" x 2.2" x 0.5" and, depending on the model selected, may be mounted on-board or in-board for height-critical applications.

Single-piece prices for these new accessory modules range from $49 (FIAM1C11: 10A, short pin and FIAM1C21: 10A, long pin) to $59 (FIAM2C11: 20A, short pin and FIAM2C21: 20A, long pin). Vicor's second-generation 48Vin dc/dc converters are available in three package sizes, each providing eight standard output voltages between 2Vdc and 48Vdc. Maximum output power is 500W.
