Tyco Electronics Intros Naos NXA025 DC Converters

February 25, 2003 by Jeff Shepard

Tyco Electronics Power Systems (Dallas, TX) expanded its range of high-performance, non-isolated, dc/dc converters with the introduction of the Naos NXA025, which is a 12V input, point-of-load module delivering 25A of output current. The space-efficient, open-frame design; small size; and low profile makes it suitable for powering high-end ICs in applications like servers, workstations and high-end optical network equipment.

Available in surface-mount (SMT) and single-in-line (SIP) versions, the NXA025 delivers 25A of output current with full-load efficiency of 93 percent at 3.3V output voltage. The module provides precisely regulated output voltage from 0.9Vdc to 5.0Vdc, programmable via an external resistor. The NXA025 is designed for reliability, with an estimated mean time before failure greater than 4 million hours at 25°C. Standard features of the NXA025 include remote on/off, output-voltage adjustment, remote sense, active current sharing, over-voltage, over-current and over-temperature protection.

The SMT version of the module has a size of 1.16in x 1.86in x 0.335in (29.64mm x 47.24mm x 8.5mm), while the SIP version has a size of 1.25in x 2in x 0.335in (31.8mm x 50.8mm x 8.5mm). The NXA025 module will be priced at $29.50 for 1,000-unit quantities. The SIP version of the product will be available in March 2003.
