Tyco Electronics Introduces New TSL250-080 PolySwitch Fuse

January 07, 2001 by Jeff Shepard

Tyco Electronics Corp.'s (Menlo Park, CA) subsidiary, Raychem, announced its new networking and telecommunications over-current circuit-protection component, the TSL250-080 device. With a 30 percent smaller footprint than existing TS250 devices, the surface-mount PolySwitch resettable fuse is designed for network cards with increased port densities and provides protection against power faults in LANs, wireless local loops, VoIP telephony and other intra-building communications applications.

The TSL250-080 device allows designers to meet Telcordia GR-1089 safety standards for intra-building/short-haul communication systems. The devices are capable of interrupting 120V and 250V ac faults, such as might be caused by wiring or installation errors. With a rated hold-current of 80mA and trip current of 160mA, the TSL250-080 provides protection against potentially damaging power faults.

“With its 30 percent reduction in size from Raychem's existing TS250 products, this device footprint yields a significant real-estate benefit for OEM designers working to increase port densities on their networking cards, while providing resettable over-current protection for sensitive intra-building communications equipment," said Lisa Leo, telecommunications market manager for Raychem Circuit Protection.

The polymeric positive-temperature coefficient TSL250-080 device uses surface-mount technology and tape and reel packaging for compatibility with high-volume assembly. It is also available in resistance-binned packaging for applications with tight balance requirements.

The price is from $0.30 each in volume, with samples available first quarter 2001 and production in second quarter 2001, and 10 to 12 weeks ARO.
