two new models in the PKF Series

October 10, 1999 by Jeff Shepard

Ericsson Energy Systems (Sweden) recently announced two new models in the PKF Series dc/dc power modules, the PKF 2111A and PKF 2113A. According to Ericsson, the new modules provide up to 12W from the MacroDens 24mm x 48mm x 8mm package. Both units are designed for 24V input applications such as radio communications or industrial systems, and are pin-compatible with previous PKF models. According to Ericsson, both models feature wide output voltage adjustment ranges. Between the PKF 2111A and PKF 2113A the range from 3V to 15V is covered. No heatsink is needed to achieve the output power of 5V/2A (PKF 2111A) or 12V/1A (PKF 2113A) for case temperatures between -45 degrees C and +100 degrees C. The 12V PKF 2113A is designed to offer 86 percent efficiency from 40 percent to full load, and is laser trimmed to 12.00V +/-20mV nominal output, using an adjustable single external resistor from 6.57V to 15.05V. The 5V PKF 2111A is designed to offer 83 percent efficiency, +/-30mV initial accuracy and an output range of 2.76V to 6.27V. Both models are claimed to provide 20mV peak to peak ripple, 30mV line regulation and TTL compatible frequency synchronization. The topology enables output current to increase at lower output voltages (up to 1.5A at 6.5V for the 1A/12V PKF 2113A), and specifies parallel operation. There is also a built-in current limit function to ensure immunity to short circuits. Other features common to the PKF Series include programmable input under-voltage turn-off, remote control and more than 560 years MTBF at 50 degrees C case temperature. In quantities of 500, the PKF 2111A and PKF 2113A will be priced at $25. Stock samples are currently available.
