Tripp Lite Announces New Line of iGuard Surge Suppressors

January 30, 2000 by Jeff Shepard

Tripp Lite (Chicago, IL) recently announced a line of surge suppressors designed to complement Apple Computer's iBook notebook computers, the iGuard. According to Tripp Lite, the ac utility power encountered in areas such as hotels, convention centers and public facilities may not be clean, reliable or safe for electronic equipment. The iGuard is designed to plug into wall outlets, with the iBook plugged into the iGuard.

According to Tripp Lite, the iGuard delivers 450 joules of surge suppression and can handle spikes of up to 36,000A. It is also designed to protect against line-noise interference with its RFI/EMI filtering, and has a three-outlet phone/modem protection system so users can connect a phone and their modem simultaneously.

The iGuard features a diagnostic LED that indicates that its power-protection circuitry is working. It also offers Tripp Lite's $5,000 insurance, covering the iGuard and all connected equipment against surge damage, including lightning.

The iGuard is designed to match the appearance of the iBook with translucent blueberry or tangerine colors. It measures 3.75" x 2" x 1.5" inches and weighs less than 3 ounces. The suggested retail price of the iGuard is $26.95.
