Tripp Lite Adds NUT Software to Its Line of UPS Systems

Tripp Lite, Inc. has announced that more than 100 of its UPS systems are now compatible with Network UPS Tools (NUT) software. This free, open source software is designed to monitor and control power devices like UPS systems and PDUs. Since many of Tripp Lite's customers are already using NUT software to manage other devices, this new compatibility allows Tripp Lite UPS systems to more easily be integrated into existing infrastructures.

“Many customers prefer to use open source software because it is cost-effective and supported by an active community,” said Eric Cobb, Tripp Lite Product Manager. “NUT compatibility in our UPS product line is another reason for customers to choose Tripp Lite.”

The primary goal of the Network UPS Tools (NUT) project is to provide support for power devices, such as uninterruptible power supplies, power distribution units and solar controllers. NUT provides many control and monitoring features, with a uniform control and management interface. More than 100 different manufacturers and several thousand models are compatible. The software is the combined effort of many individuals and companies. Among the companies actively supporting NUT are; Eaton, Gamatronic, Microdowell, Powercom, Reillo UPS, and Tripp Lite.

On the Network UPS Tools (NUT) software website, Eaton is identified as the "main supporter" of this open-source activity. On the Through the acquisition of MGE Office Protection Systems (a carve out of the MGE UPS SYSTEMS small systems, up to 10 KVA), Eaton has been supporting NUT, and more generally the Free/Libre Opensource Software Community since around 2002.
