Texas Instruments Debuts New TPS6100x Family of Converters

April 23, 2000 by Jeff Shepard

Texas Instruments Inc. (Dallas, TX) recently announced that designers are now able to increase battery life and performance on single- or dual-cell batteries by using their new TPS6100x family of low-power dc/dc converters. These devices are designed for applications in which battery life is vital, such as personal digital assistants and portable medical instruments.

The company claims that designers are able to use the TPS6100x family to use every drop of a battery lifespan, even when the battery voltage is 0.9V. The charge-pump converters allow designers to achieve a regulated 5V supply with a continuous output current of at least 100 milliamperes from a two-cell battery pack.

The devices are available at a suggested resale price of $1.93 in quantities of 1,000 units.
