November 26, 2002 by Jeff Shepard

Transistor Devices Inc. (TDI, Hackettstown, NJ) announced its new Mercury Series of 1.2kW, front-end, dc power supplies, which provide +12Vdc, +24Vdc or –48Vdc power from a wide-range, universal ac input of 90Vac to 264Vac. The Mercury 1.2kW is designed for distributed architectures and rectifier applications in the industrial, telecom and computing markets.

Packaged as a low-cost unit, the Mercury 1.2kW features power-factor correction, hot-bus plug-in, 90 percent efficiency, droop or active current sharing, and a power density of 7.5W/in³. Flexible package designs of 1U, 2U and 3U height mechanical versions make the Mercury 1.2kW a suitable option for a variety of standard off-the-shelf applications, as well as embedded power applications. Further versions are available that allow for the addition of up to two ancillary daughter cards to expand the unit's alarm capabilities. Designed for a universal deployment in any environment, the Mercury 1.2kW power supply is suitable for low- to mid-power, front-end and embedded dc power applications.

Pricing for standard basic modules starts at $425 in 1,000-piece quantities, and pricing for a four-position, 19in shelf to house the unit starts at $475. Further quantity discounts are available.
