August 08, 1999 by Jeff Shepard

Taiyo Yuden (USA) Inc. (San Marcos, CA) introduced the LS600 inverter, designed to drive cold-cathode fluorescent tube (CCFT) backlighting of dual scan color LCDs. Claimed to offer the markets lowest profile, the LS600 measures 140mm long by 12.5mm wide, with an overall height of 4.8mm.

The module provides a wide input range of 7.0-17.6Vdc and an output of 4.2W. The device's built-in brightness control is adjustable via PWM or dc bias voltage. The LS600 provides entirely surface-mounted components for improved reliability and more cost-effective manufacture, according to the company.

The LS600 is priced at $16 in OEM quantities.
