Vishay Releases New Series of 3-Phase Cylindrical Capacitors for Power Electronics
Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. introduced a new series of 3-phase cylindrical capacitors for power electronics featuring high current capabilities, nine standard voltage ratings from 400 to 1650Vac, and a wide range of capacitance values and packaging options.
The EMKP capacitors released today are available in four heights from 160 to 265mm and five diameters from 64 to 136mm. The devices offer high current ratings up to 3 x 56A and 3 x 104A – depending on the bushing type – impulse currents up to 21.3kA , very low self-inductance < 100 nH, low series resistance down to 0.6mΩ, and capacitance values from 4.0 to 600µF with a capacitance tolerance of ± 5%.
Optimized for power factor correction, ac filtering, and harmonic filtering applications in 3-phase mains, traction and industrial drives and converters, wind turbines, and solar inverters, the EMKP 3-phase capacitors are metalized polypropylene film devices with self-healing technology.
EMKP 3-phase devices offer a high reliability rating of 120 FIT and a long lifetime expectancy of 100,000 hours at + 70°C at rated voltage. The capacitors are specified for an operating temperature of -40 to + 85°C and meet IEC 61071-1, IEC 61881, and IEC 60831 standards. Terminal-to-terminal test voltage is 1.5 times the rated ac voltage for 10 seconds.
Samples and production quantities of the new EMKP 3-phase series capacitors are available now, with lead times of 8 to 10 weeks.

Energy Efficiency with Class D Amplifier Modules
Class-D switching amplifiers are helping audio designers create personal multimedia devices and home audio/visual systems that demonstrate how compact and stylish equipment can also deliver high sound quality and high audio output power. The key to this breakthrough, providing freedom from the large and bulky boxes housing traditional audio products, lies in the class-D amplifier’s high energy efficiency, which is typically around 90%. This allows designers to reduce or eliminate heatsinks as well as using smaller-sized PCBs and smaller components such as transformers, connectors and power supplies.

The Role of Hall Effect Sensors in Power Distribution Infrastructure
Power distribution units (PDUs) form an essential part of modern computing and data communications hardware. They provide multiple outputs for transferring electrical power with maximum efficiency, controlling the power capacity and safeguarding against the possible causes of supply interruption. With an ever increasing need from tech savvy consumers for higher data throughput and greater quantities of data storage capacity, as well as tough international legislation now governing CO&sub2; emissions, the demands being placed on these units are proving challenging for engineering teams to satisfy.
