XP Power Releases 15W DIP24 DC-DC Converters with Either 2:1 or 4:1 Input Ranges

Power Channels: Power Components

XP Power announced two new families to their line-up of ultra compactmetal cased 15W dc-dc converters. Available in an industry standard 24 pin DIP measuring just 1.25 x 0.8 x 0.4 inches (31.75 x 20.32 x 10.16 mm), the JCG15 and JTF15 series offer a power density of upto 37.5W per cubic inch with an efficiency of up to 91%. Their compact size conserves board space, and the highly efficient design results in less wasted heat, assisting in the thermal management of the end system.

Providing the popular nominal inputs of + 12, + 24 or +48Vdc, the JCG15 series accommodates wide 2:1 input ranges of 9 - 18Vdc, 18 - 36Vdc and 36 -75Vdc, with the JTF15 accepting ultra wide 4:1 inputs of 9 - 36Vdc and 18 - 75Vdc. Both single and dual output models are available. Single outputs are + 3.3, + 5.1, + 12 or + 15Vdc and duals are +/- 5, +/- 12 or+/- 15Vdc.

The converters have an input to output and input/output to case isolation of 1,600Vdc. A remote on/off signal control is standard across the range and can be used to control the output rails or to sequence start-up procedures. All units feature overvoltage and continuous short circuit protection.

These highly efficient dc-dc converters operate from - 40 to + 100°C for the JCG series and + 105°C for the JTF series.

The JTF and JCG series suit a wide variety of mobile, portable and wirelessapplications. Prices start from $ 41 for 500 pcs.

Energy Efficiency with Class D Amplifier Modules

Class-D switching amplifiers are helping audio designers create personal multimedia devices and home audio/visual systems that demonstrate how compact and stylish equipment can also deliver high sound quality and high audio output power. The key to this breakthrough, providing freedom from the large and bulky boxes housing traditional audio products, lies in the class-D amplifier’s high energy efficiency, which is typically around 90%. This allows designers to reduce or eliminate heatsinks as well as using smaller-sized PCBs and smaller components such as transformers, connectors and power supplies.

The Role of Hall Effect Sensors in Power Distribution Infrastructure

Power distribution units (PDUs) form an essential part of modern computing and data communications hardware. They provide multiple outputs for transferring electrical power with maximum efficiency, controlling the power capacity and safeguarding against the possible causes of supply interruption. With an ever increasing need from tech savvy consumers for higher data throughput and greater quantities of data storage capacity, as well as tough international legislation now governing CO&sub2; emissions, the demands being placed on these units are proving challenging for engineering teams to satisfy.
