CUI Introduces Medical External Power Supplies

Power Channels: Power Components

CUI Inc. announced a release of its first high efficiency medical external power supplies. Offerings include both multi-blade wall adapters and desktop adapters. All units meet Level V efficiencies and come with UL/cUL and TUV 60601-1 safety certifications.

The flexible EMMA multi-blade adapter series is designed for global use and comes standard with interchangeable blades for operation in North America, Europe, the United Kingdom, and Australia. It is offered in 15 and 30W configurations with a number of different output voltage options from 5 to 24Vdc. The EMMA series is ideal for customers who require a medically approved wall adapter for use around the world.

The new ETMA desktop adapter series is offered in 30, 60, 110, 200, and 250W configurations for medical designs needing more power than is available in a traditional wall adapter.

"With this latest release of medically certified adapters, CUI now offers a wide array of power supplies to meet the medical designer’s power needs.

"CUI provides both internal and external power solutions which we expect will address most medical project requirements," stated Kraig Kawada, CUI’s VP of Product Management.

Opinion: Unraveling the Ultra-Low Power Design Issues

The EMMA series is available through Digi-Key with prices starting at $25.15 per unit for 500 pieces.

Energy Efficiency with Class D Amplifier Modules

Class-D switching amplifiers are helping audio designers create personal multimedia devices and home audio/visual systems that demonstrate how compact and stylish equipment can also deliver high sound quality and high audio output power. The key to this breakthrough, providing freedom from the large and bulky boxes housing traditional audio products, lies in the class-D amplifier’s high energy efficiency, which is typically around 90%. This allows designers to reduce or eliminate heatsinks as well as using smaller-sized PCBs and smaller components such as transformers, connectors and power supplies.

The Role of Hall Effect Sensors in Power Distribution Infrastructure

Power distribution units (PDUs) form an essential part of modern computing and data communications hardware. They provide multiple outputs for transferring electrical power with maximum efficiency, controlling the power capacity and safeguarding against the possible causes of supply interruption. With an ever increasing need from tech savvy consumers for higher data throughput and greater quantities of data storage capacity, as well as tough international legislation now governing CO&sub2; emissions, the demands being placed on these units are proving challenging for engineering teams to satisfy.
