Alpha and Omega Semi Offers New Solutions for the Ultra-Portable Market

Power Channels: Power Components

Alpha and Omega Semiconductor Ltd. (AOS) introduced a series of new solutions in a DFN 2 x 2mm package. This broad portfolio of new products offers exceptional performance while enabling affordable form factor solutions used in hand held applications.

The ultra small package is optimized for portable wireless solutions such as in tablet PCs, eReaders, smart phones, digital cameras, MP3 players, and ultrabook computers. The ultra low on-resistance of these MOSFETs reduces conduction losses which translate into lower power consumption and longer battery life. The compact footprint and ultra-thin 0.6 mm profile of the DFN2x2 power package enables more efficient solutions in space constrained applications.

AON2410, AON2409, AON2408, AON2407, and AON2406 are the best-in-class 20V and 30V devices on the market today in a DFN2x2 package and are used for load and battery switches in portable applications.

AON2403, AON2405, and AON2406 provide ultra low on-resistance values down to guaranteed spec at 1.5V rating helping the designers to drive their circuit with lower supply voltage, which in turn lowers the power consumption and improves battery life.

"These new DFN 2 x 2 power package solutions which utilize AlphaMOS™ (αMOS™) Low Voltage technology offer exceptional performance and make affordable form factor solutions for the wireless mobile market a possibility." said Peter Wilson, Director of Low Voltage MOSFETs at AOS.

Energy Efficiency with Class D Amplifier Modules

Class-D switching amplifiers are helping audio designers create personal multimedia devices and home audio/visual systems that demonstrate how compact and stylish equipment can also deliver high sound quality and high audio output power. The key to this breakthrough, providing freedom from the large and bulky boxes housing traditional audio products, lies in the class-D amplifier’s high energy efficiency, which is typically around 90%. This allows designers to reduce or eliminate heatsinks as well as using smaller-sized PCBs and smaller components such as transformers, connectors and power supplies.

The Role of Hall Effect Sensors in Power Distribution Infrastructure

Power distribution units (PDUs) form an essential part of modern computing and data communications hardware. They provide multiple outputs for transferring electrical power with maximum efficiency, controlling the power capacity and safeguarding against the possible causes of supply interruption. With an ever increasing need from tech savvy consumers for higher data throughput and greater quantities of data storage capacity, as well as tough international legislation now governing CO&sub2; emissions, the demands being placed on these units are proving challenging for engineering teams to satisfy.
