Huawei and Visteon Join Wireless Power Consortium in Support for QI Wireless Charging Standard
The Wireless Power Consortium (WPC) announced its membership has grown to 100 companies with the recent additions of Huawei and Visteon Corp. Huawei, a mobile handset manufacturers, and Visteon, a global automotive parts supplier, both joined WPC in October.
WPC members include well-known companies like Energizer, HTC, LG, Verizon, Motorola, Nokia, Philips, Panasonic, Samsung, Sanyo, and, Sony-Ericsson. Member companies have come together to support Qi, the global standard for wireless charging, through the introduction of compatible wireless charging products.
Qi allows devices to be charged just by placing them on any Qi charging surface without connecting cords or wires. Qi offers simplicity, convenience, and flexibility by ensuring wireless charging interoperability between any Qi-enabled device and any Qi charger, regardless of manufacturer or brand.
"Since Qi launched just 15 months ago, our membership has quickly accelerated to 100, with companies introducing new Qi products that have wide-ranging competitive designs and featrues," said WPC Promotion Work Group Chair Camille Tang. "Consumer and OEM needs for convenience and design flexibility drive Qi’s vibrant innovation roadmap, which delivers increasing product choices for people – whether at home, work, in the car, or when travelling at airports."
Available in over 140 countries, Huawei products and solutions today serve more than one-third of the world’s population. The company is one of the world’s top five manufacturers of Android-based phones and a leader in the mobile device industry.

Energy Efficiency with Class D Amplifier Modules
Class-D switching amplifiers are helping audio designers create personal multimedia devices and home audio/visual systems that demonstrate how compact and stylish equipment can also deliver high sound quality and high audio output power. The key to this breakthrough, providing freedom from the large and bulky boxes housing traditional audio products, lies in the class-D amplifier’s high energy efficiency, which is typically around 90%. This allows designers to reduce or eliminate heatsinks as well as using smaller-sized PCBs and smaller components such as transformers, connectors and power supplies.
