Phihong Releases New IEEE802.3af-Compliant PoE Wall Plug Adapter

Power Channels: Power Components

Phihong has developed a new midspan product that features a wall plug for ac power. Designated the POE16R-1AF, the 15.4W wall plug adapter is fully compliant with the IEEE802.3af standard and may be used for a variety of applications including wireless and Bluetooth access points, IP telephones, or IP print servers.

"Our newest PoE product provides a fully compliant IEEE802.3 midspan but the interchangeable plugs make it the most cost-effective solution available," said Keith Hopwood, Vice President of Marketing for Phihong USA. "The pervasive solutions available right now require line cords, which cost up to $2.50 each in addition to the midspan. With the POE16R, the midspan with the U.S.-compliant clip is less than $10 when purchased in OEM quantities."

The POE16R-1AF features over-voltage, over-current, over-temperature and short-circuit protection and conforms to UL60950-2. The wall plug unit features a single bi-color LED that is used for troubleshooting diagnostics and may operate at 10Mb or 100Mb Base-T data rates.

The unit is designed for use with the Phihong R-Series of interchangeable clips which are available for North America, Argentina, Australia, Brazil, China, continental Europe, India, the United Kingdom, and South Korea, as well as an IEC320 C8 clip for use with a standard 2-wire C7 line cord as a desktop-style adapter.

The midspan measures just 80 x 45 x 33mm and weighs just 200 grams. Pricing for the wall plug adapter starts at $9.77 in OEM quantities; interchangeable ac clips are sold separately.

Energy Efficiency with Class D Amplifier Modules

Class-D switching amplifiers are helping audio designers create personal multimedia devices and home audio/visual systems that demonstrate how compact and stylish equipment can also deliver high sound quality and high audio output power. The key to this breakthrough, providing freedom from the large and bulky boxes housing traditional audio products, lies in the class-D amplifier’s high energy efficiency, which is typically around 90%. This allows designers to reduce or eliminate heatsinks as well as using smaller-sized PCBs and smaller components such as transformers, connectors and power supplies.

The Role of Hall Effect Sensors in Power Distribution Infrastructure

Power distribution units (PDUs) form an essential part of modern computing and data communications hardware. They provide multiple outputs for transferring electrical power with maximum efficiency, controlling the power capacity and safeguarding against the possible causes of supply interruption. With an ever increasing need from tech savvy consumers for higher data throughput and greater quantities of data storage capacity, as well as tough international legislation now governing CO&sub2; emissions, the demands being placed on these units are proving challenging for engineering teams to satisfy.
