Phihong Develops Dongle to Power Cisco AP1250

January 09, 2011 by Jeff Shepard

Phihong has developed a splitter that enables powering of a Cisco AP1250 wireless access point using Phihong’s IEEE802.3at-compliant enterprise class multiport midspans. Designated the ACCY125X-R, the dongle works as a traditional splitter by taking IEEE802.3at PoE and splitting off the data via Ethernet cable while continuing the 56V power feed through a dc cable.

"With the addition of this new dongle, the entire line-up of Phihong PoE Plus midspans are now compatible for powering the Cisco AP1250 wireless access point," said Keith Hopwood, vice president of marketing for Phihong USA. "This new splitter will give users more options for powering multiple access points from a single midspan; or providing them the ability to power an access point from an existing midspan without the need to buy an additional power injector."

Midspans that are now compatible with the ACCY125X-R dongle include the POE576U-8AT, POE576U-16AT, and POE576U-24AFAT (including "N" models featuring SNMP). Single port IEEE802.3at-compatible midspans and the POE125-4AT small footprint multiport midspan do not require the dongle to operate with the Cisco AP1250.

The ACCY125X-R body measures 1.57 inches in length with a 1 inch diameter, has 7 inch Ethernet and dc cords and weighs about 1 ounce. The dc cord is terminated with a tuning fork type right angle tip measuring 5.5 x 2.5 x 9.5mm.
