PowerGenix Nickel-Zinc Batteries Pass UL Tests; Certified For Recycling

PowerGenix, manufacturer of nontoxic, safe, high performance rechargeable nickel-zinc (NiZn) batteries, announced that it has met Underwriters Laboratories’ (UL) requirements for household and commercial battery safety and reliability. In testing performed by Motorola Product Testing Services, PowerGenix’s NiZn cells passed UL 2054 standard for use as a power source in products in addition to altitude simulation compliance under UL 1642.

"Underwriters Laboratories’ safety standards are recognized as one of the highest safety benchmarks in the world. These tests deliver peace of mind to manufacturers and end-users that PowerGenix’s NiZn cells are safe and robust, and affirm reliable interface with ac power sources and UL licensed products," said PowerGenix CEO Dan Squiller.

The company also announced it has been certified as an official licensee by the Rechargeable Battery Recycling Corp. (RBRC), a nonprofit public service organization dedicated to recycling rechargeable batteries. PowerGenix’s NiZn cells will receive their own unique RBRC Battery Recycling Seal, letting consumers and businesses know the rechargeable batteries may be recycled at more than 50,000 RBRC collection sites in the U.S. and Canada.

Representing more than 350 manufacturers of rechargeable batteries, RBRC licensees comprise more than 90% of the rechargeable battery industry. PowerGenix states that it is the first manufacturer of NiZn technology certified by the RBRC, adding NiZn to its list of accredited chemistries. The chemistry addition is the first for the RBRC in seven years and designates NiZn as the fifth rechargeable chemistry recognized by the organization in addition to Nickel Cadmium (NiCd), Nickel Metal-Hydride (NiMH), Lithium-Ion (Li-ion) and Small Sealed Lead (Pb) rechargeable batteries.

Energy Efficiency with Class D Amplifier Modules

Class-D switching amplifiers are helping audio designers create personal multimedia devices and home audio/visual systems that demonstrate how compact and stylish equipment can also deliver high sound quality and high audio output power. The key to this breakthrough, providing freedom from the large and bulky boxes housing traditional audio products, lies in the class-D amplifier’s high energy efficiency, which is typically around 90%. This allows designers to reduce or eliminate heatsinks as well as using smaller-sized PCBs and smaller components such as transformers, connectors and power supplies.

The Role of Hall Effect Sensors in Power Distribution Infrastructure

Power distribution units (PDUs) form an essential part of modern computing and data communications hardware. They provide multiple outputs for transferring electrical power with maximum efficiency, controlling the power capacity and safeguarding against the possible causes of supply interruption. With an ever increasing need from tech savvy consumers for higher data throughput and greater quantities of data storage capacity, as well as tough international legislation now governing CO&sub2; emissions, the demands being placed on these units are proving challenging for engineering teams to satisfy.
