IRC Offers Flameproof Vertical Mount Power Resistors for Use in Harsh Environments

IRC Inc. announced that it now offers commercial grade cement housed vertical mount power wirewound and film resistors. Designated the CVW (wirewound) and CVF (film) Series, the resistors’ specifications are well-suited for high volume and high temperature applications.

"The vertical mount configuration gives the device a minimal footprint, making it suitable for applications where PC board space is at a premium," said David Winkler, Product Manager for IRC’s Wire and Film Technologies Division. "With the extended resistance range and high temperature rating, the resistors can be specified for operation in harsh environments."

The CVW and CVF Series resistors are suitable for industrial applications, including power electronics circuits, voltage dividers, power supplies and motor controllers. The CVW Series wirewound resistors feature a resistance range from 0.1 to 910Ω, while the CVF Series film resistors have a resistance range of 28 to 200KΩ. Standard tolerances for both devices are to ±5% and ±10%, with TCRs of ±400ppm/°C at less than 20Ω and ±350ppm/°C at 20Ω and above. Operating temperature range is -55 to +275°C.

Typical pricing for the CVW and CVF Series resistors is $.085 to $0.17 each, depending on R-values, in quantities of 10K pieces. Lead time is from stock to 6 weeks.

Energy Efficiency with Class D Amplifier Modules

Class-D switching amplifiers are helping audio designers create personal multimedia devices and home audio/visual systems that demonstrate how compact and stylish equipment can also deliver high sound quality and high audio output power. The key to this breakthrough, providing freedom from the large and bulky boxes housing traditional audio products, lies in the class-D amplifier’s high energy efficiency, which is typically around 90%. This allows designers to reduce or eliminate heatsinks as well as using smaller-sized PCBs and smaller components such as transformers, connectors and power supplies.

The Role of Hall Effect Sensors in Power Distribution Infrastructure

Power distribution units (PDUs) form an essential part of modern computing and data communications hardware. They provide multiple outputs for transferring electrical power with maximum efficiency, controlling the power capacity and safeguarding against the possible causes of supply interruption. With an ever increasing need from tech savvy consumers for higher data throughput and greater quantities of data storage capacity, as well as tough international legislation now governing CO&sub2; emissions, the demands being placed on these units are proving challenging for engineering teams to satisfy.
