Sprague-Goodman Offers Diodes in New SMMP

November 27, 2001 by Jeff Shepard

Sprague-Goodman Electronics Inc. (Westbury, NY) announced that it is now offering silicon varactor diodes in a new surface-mount monolithic package (SMMP). The new package design approaches the size of a diode chip, yet can be handled using surface-mount technology.

The package design uses photo-lithographic methods at wafer fabrication to connect to the diode. Since this connection technique is more exact than wire bonding, it makes it possible to tightly control the parasitic package inductance. Operation is optimized at approximately 2GHz, and is possible to 10GHz.

Suitable for voltage-controlled oscillators (VCO), two models are now available. The GVD60100 has a C-V characteristic designed for low-voltage VCO applications. The GVD60200 has a characteristic well suited for wide bandwidth VCO designs. Both models have high Q.

The new models are offered in 5,000 pieces per 7in reel, in a 300-piece gel pack, or by bulk in vials. The price is $7.75 each at single-reel quantities. Lead time for delivery is 8 to 10 weeks.
